Ground Transportation from Sacramento International Airport (SMF)
All rental car companies at Sacramento International Airport are located at the central rental car terminal. Take Rental Car Terminal Shuttle for convenient access to all on-airport rental car agencies. Refer to the airport website for a list of car rental companies. Advance reservations are advised.
Taxis
Taxis are located in the ground transportation area adjacent to the baggage claim area at Terminal A and across from the airport hotel in Terminal B. The rates (as of June 2011) are:
- $3 flag drop, $2.50 each additional mile
- Fare to downtown Sacramento is approximately $40.00
- Senior and military personnel are eligible for a 20% discount
SuperShuttle is the exclusive provider of on-call can service at the airport. Pickup areas for passengers are located in the ground transportation are adjacent to baggage claim in Terminal A and at the center island curb in front of Terminal B. Public Transportation

(Service from San Francisco to Sacramento.) Book your ticket several days before you plan to travel. The route to Sacramento is heavily traveled, so the earlier you reserve your ticket, the better.
There are no Amtrak train stations in San Francisco. The Bay Area Rapid Transit, better known as BART, goes to Oakland and Emeryville, where Amtrak stations are located. BART offers 43 stops in the San Francisco bay area. You can easily catch a BART train to the Amtrak station.
Take advantage of the California Rail Pass. If you plan on travel to multiple destinations within the state, you can purchase a California Rail Pass, which give you unlimited travel on all California Amtrak trains and motor coaches.
You can book your train reservations on Amtrak’s website or by calling, information above. Select the departing train station. The train station in Emeryville is the closest Amtrak station to San Francisco Airport. The Amtrak station in Sacramento is a short cab ride to the hotel and convention center.
