BETHESDA, Md., July 22, 2014 – ASPRS Membership Manager, Sokhan Hing has announced her retirement from ASPRS and plans to step down from her position, effective July 25th, 2014.
Hing has given ASPRS 34 years of outstanding service and dedication. She began her career at the American Society of Photogrammetry (ASP) as an Administrative Assistant in 1980. Hing worked her way through the hierarchy of ASP to the position of Membership Manager and has enjoyed the position since 1986. Prior to Hing’s work with ASP and ASPRS, she was employed at the American Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and spent some time working for Proctor & Gamble in Cambodia.
Upon announcing her retirement, Hing said, “I have very much enjoyed working for the Society. I always felt like ASPRS was my second home.”
As ASPRS Membership Manager, Hing significantly contributed to numerous efforts and programs on behalf of the membership. She worked closely with the Regions, Divisions and Committees of APSRS throughout her career and has been a wealth of knowledge and kindness for ASPRS staff. “I am truly thankful to all the ASPRS Presidents, Region, Division and Committee officers who have devoted their time and talents to support the Society in so many ways during my time with ASPRS” Hing said when asked about the Society.
Upon announcing her retirement, Hing expressed great gratitude to former Executive Director, Jim Plasker, for his leadership while with ASPRS as well as appreciation to the headquarters staff who have worked hard to support the Society over the years. “I want to thank our new Executive Director, Dr. Michael Hauck who is working very hard to move things forward for the future success of the Society” said Hing.
Speaking for the ASPRS Board of Directors and Staff, Executive Director Dr. Michael Hauck expressed deep appreciation and gratitude for all that Hing has accomplished while with ASPRS; “Her dedication and commitment to our society has been outstanding. We wish her all the best in her retirement.” In retirement, Sokhan looks forward to enjoying time with her family and a possible move to Hawaii in order to be closer to relatives.
