Invitation to Attend Pecora Conference

You are cordially invited to participate in the Pecora 15/Land Satellite Information IV Conference/ISPRS Commission I Mid-term Symposium "Integrating Remote Sensing at the Global, Regional, and Local Scale." This conference has a strong legacy, building on a number of remote sensing conferences, the most recent being the merger in 1999 of the William T. Pecora Memorial Remote Sensing Symposia with the successful ASPRS Land Satellite Information Conferences. In 2002, this successful combination will be joined by two other events — the ISPRS Commission I Mid-term Symposium and the third in the series of Conferences on Remote Sensing for Transportation. While the Pecora 15/Land Satellite Information IV Conference continues to focus on the usefulness of satellite imagery by demonstrating successful solutions, the ISPRS Commission I Mid-term Symposium emphasizes the relevant and complementary technologies. Thus, the theme "Integrating Remote Sensing at the Global, Regional, and Local Scale" has several contexts:

  • integrating "imaging systems and technologies" with "solutions,"
  • integrating "sensor data" with "platform data," and with modern information technology,
  • integrating imagery from different sensor geometries across local, regional, and global scales,
  • integrating data providers with value-added resellers and end user communities,
  • integrating the ISPRS and Pecora technical programs in such a way that registrants learn how the science and technology of sensors and platforms impact the quality of data applications.

For applications, the Technical Program Committee has selected five areas to emphasize in five broad tracks. The ISPRS Commission I Symposium forms a sixth “track.”

  • Disasters, Hazards and Emergency Response
  • Environment
  • Global Remote Sensing Policy Issues
  • Natural Resources (including Forestry, Agriculture, Geology, Energy)
  • Transportation

The Technical Program Committee and the track leaders have given focus to these broad areas by developing objectives for each track (see text at right). Track leaders have also suggested possible sessions that could form the track in order to further communicate high interest areas to potential presenters. These potential sessions can be found at http://www.asprs.org/Pecora-ISPRS-2002/tracks.shtml. Over the next few months as proposals are reviewed, the program concepts will evolve but proposals that address these objectives are more likely to be selected. Specific questions can be addressed to the track leaders.

Note: Submissions for the Application Session are highly encouraged. These presenters are encouraged to submit materials for the conference CD-ROM proceedings.

Selection Criteria
All abstracts will be reivewed for content and appropriateness. The final decision on program and inclusion of topics will depend on response to the call and the availability of space. Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified of acceptance BY APRIL 30 and asked to confirm their commitment to participate in the conference by May 10, 2002.
Conference Registration
Upon notification of acceptance, authors must sign and return the acceptance letter indicating their willingness to present at the conference, complete a speaker registration form, and include the appropriate registration fee. Speakers are required to pre-register no later than August 8, 2002 at the special speaker rate.
