Klondike Express26 Glaciers Cruise – Whittier Alaska

May 4, 11,12, 13, 14, 15 or 16 (11:00 a.m. – 7:15 p.m.)

The Klondike Express is a 137-foot, high-speed catamaran. The vessel has three decks, two of which are enclosed and heated. Comfortable upholstered booths with tables are available for all passengers and the large picture windows provide a view from every seat. A saloon, snack bar, gift shop and seven restrooms are a few of the other amenities available to the passengers.

The 26 Glacier Cruise travels over 135 miles into Prince William Sound where you will see 26 "named glaciers" and many more unnamed. We get within 400 to 500 feet from face of these towering walls of ice and turn off the engines so you can "hear" the glaciers move as well as see the brilliant blues in the ice. Glacier calving is normally seen during each cruise. You will see three types of glaciers on each trip including Alpine or Hanging, Piedmont and Tidewater glaciers. Transportation pick up at the Captain Cook hotel (short 3 blocks from the Anchorage Hilton Hotel) at 11:00 return back at 7:15 p.m. Tour includes: transportation, lunch, 4.5 hour cruise, taxes and tunnel fee.

Fixed Wing FlightseeingPlane over glacier

Tuesday May 6, 2003 (10:00- 1:00, or 1:00 – 4:00)

To get a feel for how large Alaska really is, a flightseeing tour is a must. Whichever tour you choose, either the Mt. McKinley flightseeing tour or the Knik Glacier tour you will be awestruck by the beauty and size of Alaska. Both tours include transfers to/from the headquarters hotel. The McKinley Tours is a 2.5- hour flightseeing tour plus transportation time. The Knik Tours is approximately 1.5-hour Flightseeing tour plus transportation time. 2 persons minimum are required to operate both trips.

Anchorage MuseumHighlights of Anchorage Tour

Tuesday May 6, 2003 (10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.)

Narrated tour of the highlights of Anchorage includes Lake Hood, the world’s largest floatplane base, the Port of Anchorage and the highlights of historic downtown. Learn about how the 1964 earthquake changed the face of Anchorage as we know it today. There will be a stop will be at the Anchorage Museum of History and Art where guests will learn about the history of Alaska from the first peoples coming to Alaska across the Bearing Sea Land Bridge to present day. A docent-guided tour of the Alaska Gallery will provide guests with an informative and entertaining look at Alaska from an Alaskan point of view. The final stop will be at the Sourdough Mining Company for lunch. After lunch visit Alaska Wildberry Products and see the largest chocolate waterfall in the State (maybe the country).

Mantanuska ValleyMatanuska Valley Tour

Wednesday, May 7, 2003 (8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)

Tour begins with a narrated ride from Anchorage in route to the scenic Matanuska-Susitna Valley. Learn about the rich gold mining and agricultural history of this fertile area. The driver/guide will share stories of mining days past, and also enlighten passengers on the massive vegetables produced in the valley annually. The day will include a stop at a reindeer farm. One of the original Colony Farms, Williams Reindeer Farm is home to over 200 reindeer, the descendants of a herd brought from Russia in the 1890’s. The next stop, The Musk Ox Farm is home to a unique domestication project, which began in 1954. Musk ox became extinct in Alaska during the mid-1800’s. Now a protected species, the Musk Ox Farm is an ideal place to observe and photograph these animals safely and at close range. The actual Iditarod Race, 1049 miles by dog sled from Anchorage to Nome, began in 1973 to commemorate the efforts of these brave mushers. The grand finale will be a stop at an actual Iditarod Race champion’s kennel, to learn more about the lifestyle of an Iditarod dog musher. This four time Iditarod champion will charm and entertain guests with antics and stories of life on the trail. He is the recent 2002 champion with a record-breaking race time on his fourth championship. The tour will depart from/return to the conference headquarter hotel. A stop for a hot lunch at Lake Lucille Lodge is included in the tour price.

Aleyeska ResortWinner Creek Hike at Alyeska Resort

Saturday, May 10, 2003 (8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.)

Trip includes roundtrip transfers, from the headquarters hotel, traveling along the scenic by-way of the Turnagain Arm to Alyeska resort just 45 miles from downtown Anchorage. Leaving the Alyeska Prince Hotel in Girdwood a short 1-¾ mile walk takes you to the Winner Creek Gorge. Approximately 4 miles roundtrip with a hiking time of about 2 hours. Water and snacks included. The group will have lunch afterwards at the Alyeska Bake shop – famous for their homemade soups in a bread bowl.

Whale watching - Kenai FjordsKenai Fjords Natl. Park Wildlife & Glacier Cruise – Seward, Alaska

Saturday, May 10, 2003 (7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.)

Trip includes round trip transfers south on the Seward Highway. With the Chugach Mountain Range on one side of the highway, the tail end of the Alaska Range across the inlet and the Kenai Range in front of the coach, the views this morning will be spectacular. Guests will want to have their cameras handy, as there are usually sheep along the hillside on the drive down, and keep an eye out for moose as well. As the coach come across the flats towards Portage, see abandoned buildings and tree stumps still standing since the 1964 earthquake, which dropped the entire area over two feet. The 2.5-hour drive to Seward is scenic and incredible as the coach heads up and over the Kenai Mountain Range and through Turnagain Pass. The drive alone is worth the trip. Once in Seward, guests will board a cruise boat with inside seating and a heated cabin, for a cruise of the Kenai Fjords National Park. The cruise will offer the opportunity to view sea otters, a Stellar Sea Lion Colony, whales, Dall porpoise, bird rookeries, puffins, a tidewater glacier and unique geological formations. Lunch is included on the cruise.
