Scope
JURSE 2011 intends to be a unique forum for urban remote sensing with respect to the Information Technology and Geoscience community. A continuously increasing amount of multiple sensory data offers opportunities to address new questions and solve existing problems more effectively in urban remote sensing. To exploit the full potential these diverse data sources offer, several questions needs to be investigated, for example how to select the best data sets for different applications and how to implement and exploit the algorithms and procedures developed for single sensor data processing. Another important question is how to combine the information derived from these different sensors, for example on which level should the individually processed data been fused.

The objectives of JURSE 2011 are:

Conference topics
Urban remote sensing includes a wide array of research topics and disciplines, and is emerging as a truly interdisciplinary field. The joint conferences will feature many special sessions with oral and poster components.

Paper Submission
Prospective authors are invited to submit a  FULL PAPER of maximum 4 pages via the web interface. These papers will undergo a review process by the program committee. Accepted papers will be published on CD-ROM and in IEEE Xplore.

Student Paper Competition
During the forthcoming Joint Urban Remote Sensing Event 2011, a student paper competition will be held. It is a wonderful occasion for young researchers in urban remote sensing to expose their work in this unique venue and be recognized for their value. For students whose paper will be accepted for this session, conference sponsors provide funds for partial reimbursement of travel and lodging expenses. Moreover, prizes and certificates for the first three papers in the competition will be provided.

Conference Venue
The conference will be held in Munich, the capital of Bavaria, and will be hosted by the Department of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Technische Universitaet Muenchen (TUM). The workshop site is located at TUM, close to the museum district, and in walking distance to the main station and center of Munich.

July 3-8, 2011. US National Committee to the ICA Invites Applications for Travel Funding to 25th International Cartographic Conference and 15th General Assembly of the International Cartographic Association Paris, France.

View / downlad this information in print friendly Adobe PDF format (20Kb)

The US National Committee (USNC) of the International Cartographic Association (ICA) invites American scholars and international scholars at American institutions to submit applications for consideration for travel funding support to attend and participate in the 25th International Cartographic Conference in Paris, July 3-8, 2011(http://www.icc2011.fr/). The USNC supports a number of U.S. scholars to attend the ICC through a competitive evaluation based on submitted abstracts, a short vita, and career standing (with young scholars given priority). The deadline for applications for these awards is October 12, 2010, the same as the deadline for submission of abstracts to the Local Organizing Committee in Paris.

Abstracts for all papers and posters, and full papers to be refereed, are due on October 12, 2010, to the 25th International Cartographic Conference (ICC) and 15th General Assembly of the International Cartographic Association. Full papers, refereed on abstract, are due on February 15, 2011. See the calendar at the ICC website at: http://www.icc2011.fr/call-for-papers/calendar/.

Abstracts for the refereed papers and for papers and posters refereed on abstract will be given equal consideration by the Committee. The abstract and a short vita are the only information required for consideration, although all supported scholars are required to develop a full paper by the conference deadlines and provide the USNC a short statement of participation and benefits after the conference. The total number of scholars supported is contingent upon the available funds. Preference is given to young scholars (graduate students and those completing the Ph.D. in the last 5 years). Partial support for maturing scholars (5 to 10 years past the Ph.D.) and some senior scholars also is available and the amounts and number of scholars supported depends on the success of the USNC in securing funds from the National Science Foundation, commercial companies, government agencies, and societies. The USNC encourages diversity in participation and welcomes applications from women, minorities, and those with disabilities.

Acceptance of abstracts for funding support from the USNC is contingent upon acceptance of the abstracts by the ICC. Thus, notification of USNC awards will be made in January 2011 after the ICC determines acceptance of abstracts in December 2010.

For consideration for funding support, simultaneous to submitting your abstract to the ICC through the submission system (http://www.icc2011.fr/call-for-papers/submission-system/), please submit a copy of the abstract and a short (1 page max) vita or resume as an email attachment to usery@usgs.gov as either a pdf or MS Word document.

Please adhere to the ICC guidelines (http://www.icc2011.fr/call-for-papers/guidelines/#III) for abstract (and paper/poster) development. For the USNC submission, include abstract and vita/resume in a single pdf or Word document. Please name the document “lastname ICC Abstract.pdf (or .doc)” where lastname is the lastname of the first author. The USNC will only consider one abstract per author, including co-authorship. Single-authored abstracts by young scholars are given preference to multi-authored ones.

October 12, 2010 USNC Deadline for Abstract Submission for Travel Funding Consideration for 2011 ICC Paris. Submit to usery@usgs.gov.
