Cover Image
The cover for this special issue on commercial remote sensing shows a vegetation and soil map derived from commercial HyMap™ hyperspectral data covering the Jasper Ridge Biological Reserve, California. These 4.2-m spatial resolution data were processed by Analytical Imaging and Geophysics (AIG), using ENVI®, the Environment for Visualizing Images. Top image is a color-infrared-composite of bands 28, 15, 8 (0.85, 0.66, 0.55 mm), RGB. Bottom image shows the predominant land cover type derived utilizing diagnostic “endmember” spectra extracted from the hyperspectral data (inset spectral plot). Endmember names were assigned based on comparison to spectral libraries and a vegetation community map published by the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, Stanford University. Black areas are unclassified. The HyMap vegetation and soil map matches the published data reasonably well, however, in some cases, includes additional detail not present on the published map.

Pushbroom Images
Taejung Kim
Epipolar lines for linear pushbroom images, rather than being straight lines, are hyperbola-like non-linear curves.
967 Relative Radiometric Normalization
Performance for Change Detection from Multi-Date Satellite Images
Xiaojun Yang and C.P. Lo
The choice of the relative radiometric normalization method depends on the proper selection of a reference image, sample sets, and sample size, as well as a consideration of the scene characteristics of land-cover distribution , water-land proportion, and topographic relief.

Grid-Cell Based Quantitative Method
Amod Sagar Dhakal, Takaaki Amada, and Masamu Aniya
The evaluation of five hazard maps indicated higher accuracy for the combinations in which the non-landslide group was generated by the unaligned stratified random sampling method.

of Multispectrally Classified Urban Rivers
Yun Zhang
By applying this method, discontinuous river segments can be connected, small water areas can be separated from noise, and noise in large water areas can be eliminated.

Models produced with this method can only be applied to the area from which the daily maximum temperature data were recorded, but they are much simpler than models that simulate the physics of the atmosphere.

New Indices of agreement distinguish quantification error from location error, hence replace the standard Kappa to quantify similarity between maps.

Digital Elevation Models from SPOT Images
Amnon Krupnik
Accuracy and reliability of DEMs, extracted automatically from SPOT stereo models, are tested by comparing the results to manually measured DEMs from aerial images.
