Cover Image
This months cover depicts Washington, DC, USA, which is the
location for the XXII Congress of FIG, held in conjunction with the
ACSM-ASPRS 2002 Conference and Technology Exhibition. This vertical
image of central Washington, in which the Washington Monument and White
House can be clearly seen, is a 61-centimeter, pan-sharpened natural
color image acquired by the recently launched QuickBird spacecraft
of DigitalGlobe®. The left hand, or western, portion of the image
has been color-coded based on digital elevation data obtained from
the STAR-3i airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar system of Intermap Technologies.
The small image is a perspective view of the same scene created using
the 3D analysis and visualization tools of IMAGINE VirtualGIS®.
The images are provided courtesy of Leica Geosystems and the image
processing was performed using the companys ERDAS IMAGINE® software.
