PE&RS March 2002Cover Image
This months' cover was generated using a LiDAR-derived digital surface model (DSM) created by Merrick & Company, of Aurora Colorado. The images are of Denver's "Mile High" (old) and "Invesco" Mile High (new) football stadiums.

The first image is a LiDAR point cloud and TIN rendering using Merrick's high speed viewing platform. The second image and also the background image uses the ChromaDepth rendering process to allow users to view the DSM in 3D. The third image was taken from a 6-inch pixel digital color camera image draped on a 1-meter LiDAR DSM. The last image was generated using automated vector extraction.

The data were acquired utilizing Merrick's integrated LiDAR and 4000- by-4000 pixel digital color/IR camera system. The sensor is an LH Systems ALS 40. All data were simultaneously collected and processed as a digital beginning to end process, thus eliminating the use of traditional aerial film products. The data products were generated as part of Merrick's robust LiDAR research and development program for commercial and government clients using Merrick's proprietary image and surface model software and processes. Merrick & Company provides LiDAR, photogrammetry, digital imagery and GIS application services throughout North and South America.
