Single Photon-sensitive Lidar or SPL was developed by
Sigma Space Corporation. Compared to conventional
lidar systems that require hundreds of detected
photons to make a range measurement, SPL requires
only one detected photon. Sigma Space has developed
three SPL systems so far, High Resolution Quantum
Lidar System (HRQLS pronounced “Hercules”), HRQLS-
2, and HAL.

Russ and Jeanie Congalton have been involved with ASPRS for 37 years. It is with great
sadness that we see them retire from working on
PE&RS
. While we have all enjoyed the
behind the scenes work they have put in, we like to take a few moments to chat with the
Congaltons and get to know a little more about what drives them.
