PHOTOGRAMMETRIC ENGINEERING & REMOTE SENSING
COLUMNS
The purpose of this book is
stated to be the provision
to a wide variety of users,
including those new to
the field, of a reference
tool (that is, one that is to be searched rather than
read from cover to cover) that will be of substantial
assistance in their exploration of the foundations,
principles, and the state-of-the-art of Earth remote
sensing.
This month we look at The Cayman Islands.

An Assessment of Algorithmic Parameters Affecting Image
Classification Accuracy by Random Forests
Dee Shi
and
Xiaojun Yang
An evaluation of algorithmic parameters affecting image classification accuracy by
random forests.

A Statistical Examination of Image Stitching Software Packages for
Use With Unmanned Aerial Systems
John W. Gross
and
Benjamin W. Heumann
The accuracy of Photoscan Pro, Pix4D Mapper Professional, and Microsoft Image
Composite Editor for use with imagery acquired with an unmanned aerial system.

Correction of Atmospheric Refraction Geolocation Error for High
Resolution Optical Satellite Pushbroom Images
Ming Yan, Chengyi Wang, Jianglin Ma, Zhiyong Wang,
and
Bingyang Yu
The Line of Sight propagation direction of a satellite imaging sensor to an Earth’s surface
object through the atmosphere based on a ray tracking physical model.

Predicting Palustrine Wetland Probability Using Random Forest
Machine Learning and Digital Elevation Data-Derived Terrain Variables
Aaron E. Maxwell, Timothy A. Warner,
and
Michael P. Strager
Random forest machine learning and digital elevation data-derived variables are
investigated for mapping the topographic probability of palustrine wetland occurrence
within different ecological subregions, using a variety of terrain predictor variables, and
using training data derived from the National Wetland Inventory (NWI).
