ASPRS has created the Partners in Education Program
to
support the Society’s effort to educate students from K through 14, as well as
the public, about the modern uses of remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems
(GIS), and photogrammetry. The ASPRS mission is to advance the knowledge of and
improve the understanding about the mapping sciences and to promote the responsible
applications of photogrammetry, remote sensing, GIS, and supporting technologies.
Through the Partners in Education Program, ASPRS Sustaining Members provide direct
support to the ASPRS education agenda through tax-free donations.
Current ASPRS Partners in Education include:
Leica Geosystems, -- through a donation
that doubled the printing of the ASPRS career brochure, "Shape
the Future: Careers in Imaging and Geospatial Information and Science
Technology."
.
ESRI, Inc. -- through a donation that supported the promulgation
of information and general awareness of geographic information
science in Latin America through the Inter-American Development
Bank.
.
IAEGS - The Institute for Advanced Education
in Geospatial Sciences
IAEGS is a collaborative learning center, housed at The University
of Mississippi, which is developing a repository of dynamic online
courseware specific to Earth science education and its application.
The curriculum of 30 online courses, authored by leading industry and
academic experts within the remote sensing/GIS community, has been
developed, in part, through our ASPRS Partnership in Education which
has provided guidance and expertise in curriculum definition and design
and review of ongoing developments.
The courses are designed to meet
the educational needs of academia, industry and government. By
amplifying current learning models with
virtual classrooms, institutions of any size or budget will be
able to offer a Remote Sensing/GIS curriculum to meet the demand
of an increased
academic and professional pool in the geospatial arena.
IAEGS is
ready to deliver its first wave of online geospatial courses.
Visit our website to view the course curriculum and to obtain
current information on available courses.
Other ASPRS Sustaining Member companies are encouraged
to follow this lead and become ASPRS Partners in Education. For information
on how to become a Partner, contact Kimberly Tilley, ASPRS Communications
Director, at kimt@asprs.org, or
call 301-493-0290, ext. 103.
