This shaded terrain model (shown here with a digital ortho image) was surveyed
and processed by Optech Incorporated of Toronto, Ontario for Hauts-Monts, Beauport,
Quebec. Using Optech's Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper (ALTM), this 925 m x 765
m area was surveyed in under 30 seconds with a data capture rate of 5,000 elevation
points/second.
Shown in this picture is Quebec City's downtown area (top) and the Citadel
(bottom right). Surveyed in October 1997, using Hauts-Monts' Cessna 414, this
data has a 15-cm elevation accuracy and represents 136,877 points. The data
are displayed here on a 2.9-m grid. Hauts-Monts produced the digital
ortho image from a 1:5,000-scale photo taken with a Leica RC-20 camera. Image
generated using Vertical Mapper from Northwood Geoscience, Nepean, Ontario.

A student-friendly implementation of a radiative transfer model of vegetation
canopy reflectance is used as a resource for teaching the physical principles
of remote sensing.
Recent advances in the use of interferometric radar allow the definition of
high resolution, three-dimensional geometry of surface features, topography,
and impervious surfaces in urban areas.
A data fusion approach using a post-classification technique is presented
as a cost-effective method for delineating land cover at appropriate thematic
and spatial resolutions to support a quantitative inventory of forest carbon
stocks.
A “map-guided” classification approach was developed to use the information
in existing subregional land-cover maps of varying detail to produce a seamless,
regional map with consistent spatial and thematic properties.
