This position is located with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC), in Rolla, Missouri.

The incumbent serves as the raster technical lead in the design and integration of data, data models, and systems. Based on business requirements and system capabilities, develop strategies to enhance and implement new system designs.

He/she leads and coordinates the management of projects designed to develop new geographic applications systems and methods. Directs project activities in support of The National Map. Guides the work of other team members, and coordinates resource allocations and systems development efforts.

Serves as Primary Authoritative Contact for technical issues related to raster geospatial data activities. Serves as the authoritative resource on creating technology solutions for requirements related to transactional data exchange, change management, data validation, inventory management, route navigation, and providing access to and dissemination of multi-resolution raster data.

Plans and conducts cartographic and geographic studies and analyses in such areas as geospatial science applications, technical planning/standards, quality control, and including input to contract services. Writes comprehensive reports that include authoritative findings and recommendations, and serve as bureau precedents.

Justifies, interprets, and negotiates cooperative programs with partner organizations to undertake efforts such as the development of integrated projects, enhancement of current applications, or the research of applications concepts.

Geospatial Extension Specialist

Columbia, Missouri, 65211.  University of Missouri, Geospatial Extension Specialist beginning Fall, 2008.  The position’s main responsibility is to build a statewide geospatial extension program.  Duties include:

  1. Develop and disseminate geospatial education
  2. Provide geospatial technology assistance and promote applications within existing Extension programs.
  3. Expand Extension outreach and technology guidance to Federal/State/local users in partnership with the Missouri Spatial Data Information Service (MSDIS).

This position is a non-tenure track one-year appointment to be reviewed annually. The Missouri Geospatial Extension Specialist will operate under the umbrella of University of Missouri Extension and The College of Arts and Science.  The position will be housed in the Department of Geography.

PhD in Geography or closely related discipline preferred.  Grantsmanship, excellent writing and communication skills required. Classroom and applied experience using GIS, remote sensing and GPS, excellent communication, leadership skills and experience working effectively in diverse environments are vital skills needed for this position.
