KODAK TO FUND INTERNATIONAL EDUCATIONAL
LITERATURE AWARD

The American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) is proud to announce that Eastman Kodak Company has agreed to be the donor of the International Educational Literature Award (IELA). First bestowed in 1990, the IELA is made to a university or educational institution outside of the United States for the purpose of improving the quantity and quality of mapping sciences (i.e., photogrammetry, remote sensing, GIS, and related disciplines) literature in the recipient’s library. Kodak had been the sponsor of this award in the past and ASPRS is honored that Kodak will again have its name on this award.

"The support of awards like this is critical to furthering our profession,” said Terry Keating, ASPRS president. “The recipients of this award are typically small colleges and universities in countries where this material is difficult to obtain. We are very pleased to have re-established this relationship with Kodak and look forward to working with them for many years."

"Kodak is honored to sponsor the 2003 KODAK International Education Literature Award," said William P. Quinn, General Manager of Kodak's Aerial and Industrial Materials group, and Vice President, Commercial & Government Systems. "Helping to enhance the educational opportunities of international students interested in the mapping sciences encompasses what we at Kodak value -- continuous improvement and innovation."

The award consists of:

The total value of this award is over $1,500. The materials are to be placed in the library of the institution receiving the award. Any institution that receives the award is ineligible to apply for the award again for a period of five years. Application is by special application form.

Both in 2002 and again this year, the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) agreed to augment the above award with a generous grant of the complete ESRI Press Library collection.

Past award recipients are the University of Lagos, Universidade Federal de Vicosa, Cairo University, Universidade de Concepcion, University of Malawi Polytechnic, Sung Kyum Kwan University, University of Nairobi, Moi University, and the University of the Witwatersrand.

Founded in 1934, ASPRS is an international professional organization of 7,000 geospatial data professionals. ASPRS is devoted to advancing knowledge and improving understanding of the mapping sciences to promote responsible application of photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems and supporting technologies.
