February 13 2018 @ 3:00 AM - February 20 2018 @ 12:00 PM EST

TitleAdvanced Webinar: Data Analysis Tools for High Resolution Air Quality Satellite Datasets

Organization: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

Course Overview: High resolution air quality data is helpful for monitoring urban air pollution. In this webinar, participants will learn how to use Python scripts to map and analyze air quality data through hands-on exercises. The training will cover MODIS aerosol optical depth data and OMI NO2 and SO2 data. By the end of the training, attendees will be able to use available Python scripts to read, map, and analyze Level-2 data and modify available scripts for future use.

Course Dates: A 1 hour session (1/17) and two, 2 hour sessions (1/19 and 1/22) at 10:00 EST (UTC-5).

TitleAdvanced Webinar: Accuracy Assessment of a Land Cover Classification

Organization: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

Course Overview: In last year’s ARSET Advanced Webinar: Land Cover Classification with Satellite Imagery, attendees learned the basic steps to create a supervised land cover classification. The next step to using land cover classifications is being able to evaluate the performance of a land cover map using accuracy assessments. This training will equip attendees to conduct an accuracy assessment on a land cover map and identify which classes might be misrepresented. By the end of this training, attendees will be able to conduct an accuracy assessment on a land cover map, understand how to create and use reference data, become familiar with sample designs for accuracy assessment, and develop and interpret an error matrix and a Kappa statistic.

Course Dates: Two, 2 hour sessions. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays, February 13 and 20, 2018, at 11:00-13:00 or 23:00-01:00 EST (UTC-5). The session is broadcast twice per day to allow for international participation.

TitleIntroduction to Using the VIC Hydrologic Model with NASA Earth Observations

Organization: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

Course Overview: Hydrologic modeling is useful for flood, drought, and water resources management. The Variable Infiltration Capacity (VIC) Model uses inputs to better understand hydrological processes in near real-time. Many of the inputs are available from NASA remote sensing and Earth system models, allowing the model to provide soil moisture, evapotranspiration and runoff as outputs. Together with precipitation data, these outputs provide quantitative assessment of a regional water budget. This introductory training will include an overview of the model, sources of satellite-derived input data, and implementation of the model. By the end of this training, attendees will be able to download, install, and use the VIC model, setup VIC for a watershed or river basin using remote sensing data inputs, and analyze output water resources components

Course Dates:  Three, 1 hour sessions. Sessions will be held on Thursdays, February 15 – March 1 from 09:00 – 10:00 and 18:00 – 19:00 EST (UTC -5). The session is broadcast twice per day to allow for international participation.
