Do you have to be an ASPRS member to apply?
For most scholarships, yes but we do offer some where, in
addition to the monetary award, a new or renewed mem-
bership is included.
How does someone apply?
In the Fall of every year ASPRS publishes a brochure that
describes all of our current awards and provides instruc-
tions and time-lines for those who wish to apply for select-
ed scholarships. Individuals who are interested, should
watch the APSRS site for the details,
Typically ap-
plications are due in late October-early November of each
year.
Why should someone apply?
The prestige of being an ASPRS Scholarship recipient is
recognized globally and contributes significantly to the
recipient’s resume and professional aspirations. The mon-
etary component, which ranges from $2,000 to $6,500,
helps ease the financial burden on students and enables
them to more readily focus on their research and studies.

“The … Scholarship award helped me in
a couple distinct ways. First, the award
encouraged me to give back to the profession.
I’ve done this by being active in extension
related activities at local schools and colleges.
Second, the scholarship provided me with
financial resources to attend conferences and
take courses that enhance my professional
skills…”
An task force has been created to examine all ASPRS awards and provide recommendations to the ASPRS Board of Directors and the ASPRS
Foundation concerning: 1) streamlining application and evaluation procedures for awards; 2) eliminating duplication of effort in evaluating can-
didates for awards; 3) eliminating or combining awards to achieve efficiency and respond to member recommendations; 4) review of the ASPRS
scholarship program with the aim of simplifying the application process and redirecting the scholarships to better meet student needs; 5) review
of the Fellow and Honorary member awards for distinction and insure compliance with bylaws; and 6) providing clear guidelines and procedures
for all awards reflecting any bylaws requirements. The Task Force also is charged with making sure all endowed awards are implemented with
the guidance and process approved by the endowment source.
The Task Force will meet biweekly in the August to October timeframe by conference call and complete its work with a goal to provide rec-
ommendations to the ASPRS Board of Directors for consideration at the November 2015 meeting. Any changes in the Awards Program recom-
mended by the Task Force will be put into effect for the ASPRS 2015 Awards to be presented at the IGTF April 11-15, 2016 in Ft. Worth, Texas.
