ANNOUNCEMENTS
Paul A. Badr, CP, PLS, PPS, SP
has been
appointed to serve as Chair of the Statewide
Mapping Advisory Committee (SMAC) by
Alex Rankin, PLS – Chair of the North Car-
olina Geographic Information Coordinating
Council (GICC).
The committee works to develop and update
data content standards, consolidate statewide mapping re-
quirements, gain support for financing cooperative programs,
oversee creation and maintenance of Council-priority geospa-
tial data and advise the GICC on challenges and opportunities
relating to geospatial data programs.
Mr. Badr, President of the Geospatial Division of GPI, locat-
ed in Charlotte, NC holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering Technol-
ogy from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte (UNCC).
He is an
ASPRS Certified Photogrammetris
t and Profes-
sional Land Surveyor with 30 years of professional geospatial
experience that includes aerial, mobile and terrestrial lidar,
photogrammetry, asset management, ortho-imagery, model-
ing, and more.
Dewberry
, a privately held professional services firm, an-
nounced the promotion of two employees, Jennifer Novac and
Mark Maloney, in its Denver, Colorado, office. The promotions
coincide with Dewberry’s ongoing expansion of engineering,
architectural, and consulting services in the western region,
where the firm has practiced since 2010.
These promotions include:
• Jennifer Novac, GISP, has been promoted to associate.
She is a quality manager supporting the geospatial
and technology services group. Novac earned a bache-
lor’s degree in anthropology, a minor in geography, and
a certificate in geographic information systems (GIS)
from Indiana University (2006). She is a member of
the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote
Sensing.
• Mark Maloney, PE, has also been promoted to associate.
He is a structural engineer who specializes in water and
wastewater facility structure design as well as retrofit
and repair. Maloney earned a bachelor’s degree in civil
engineering from the Colorado School of Mines (1995)
and is a professional engineer in Colorado.

is pleased to an-
nounce that Asia Air Survey Co.
(AAS), Tokyo, Japan, has taken deliv-
ery of an
for use
in their forest resource management
initiatives, road and railway facility
management, as well as slope stability
monitoring activities.
With 70% of Japan covered in mountains and hillsides, the
country can be very susceptible to geomorphic hazards, such
as landslides, often caused by seismic activity. To predict and
mitigate these hazards, AAS plans to use the Galaxy airborne
lidar sensor to collect high-density 3D data to create detailed
maps of the country. The Galaxy is uniquely suited to collect
high-accuracy data in variable and forested terrain, courtesy
of its full-waveform capability and advanced
technology.
“With conventional airborne lidars, the measurement swath
changes due to the undulation of the terrain, so it is necessary
to increase the flight strip sidelap in order to cover the area,”
said Mr. Tomowo Ohga, Deputy General Manager, Survey
Technologies Dept. of AAS. “The Galaxy’s SwathTRAK func-
tion dynamically changes the scan angle in the air according
to height above ground, making the measurement width con-
stant. This makes it possible to reduce the number of flight
strips and to reduce the flight cost.”
“We are very pleased that AAS has chosen the,” said Michael
Sitar, Teledyne Optech’s Airborne Business Manager.

Altavian, Inc
., a U.S. based Unmanned Aircraft System
(UAS) engineering and manufacturing firm, today announces
the award of a $250MM Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quan-
tity contract with the US Army. Under the Program Execu-
tive Office Aviation, Products Office for Tactical Unmanned
Aircraft (TUAS), Altavian will be supporting the largest small
UAS program in the world.
The US Army Family of Systems, Unmanned Aircraft Sys-
tems (FoSUAS) includes the RQ-11, the RQ-20, supporting
control and communications equipment, and other technolo-
gies to be fielded over the contract period of performance. All
systems are designed to be carried by a single dismounted
warfighter, quickly assembled, and deployed to provide imme-
diate over-the-hill surveillance and reconnaissance. Altavian
supports the mission of the Army to provide critical, real-time
intelligence for warfighter protection and extended operation-
al reach.
“The entire Altavian team is proud to be supporting our
warfighters. It is part of our mission to design and build incredible
technology, but knowing that our technology is at work in service
of the men and women who defend the United States of America
is our highest honor. We are committed to meeting the challenges
of this contract and accelerating innovation in the US Army UAS
capabilities.” Says John Perry, CEO of Altavian.
Under this new contract, Altavian will compete to provide
quality components to sustain the FoSUAS fleet, as well as
upgrading offerings to increase the capability, resiliency, and
cost-effectiveness of the fleet. New offerings include upgrad-
ed avionics and radios with increased frequency options, along
with a handheld ground control station (H-GCS). Altavian will
continue to supply RQ-11 and RQ-20 direct replacement parts
for the Government.
