Technical tours are offered to facilities in
and around Anchorage. There is a charge per person for each tour offered.
There is a minimum requirement for participation. Alternate selections
may be necessary in case of cancellation. Registrants will be notified
of any tour cancellations prior to the conference start date so that an
alternative tour may be selected or a refund issued. No refunds will be
made for technical tours unless the tour is cancelled. Please Note: Due
to security screening at some locations, all bags, backpacks, etc. may
be searched. Guns and knives are not allowed. All attendees must carry
identification and non-U.S. residents must carry their passport. Attendees

The University of Alaska Anchorage - CANCELLED
Tour of the Anchorage campus, the School of Engineering, and the Department
of Geomatics, as well as presentations about geomatics, ongoing research
projects, equipment and facilities.

U.S. Geological Survey
Visit the U.S. Geological Survey offices located on the Alaska Pacific
University campus. Included in this tour will be the Alaska Volcano Observatory,
which monitors several dozen active volcanoes, the Geography Program offices,
with displays of various remote-sensing products, and the Earth Science
Information Center, which is the main public access point for map sales
and USGS information.

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
At U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Alaska Region, see why remote sensing
and GIS have become a major component of our daily activity. Operations
include wildlife observation data, habitat mapping, land status mapping,
refuge planning, and National Wetlands Inventory.

Bureau of Land Management
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has a multiple use mission in its
management of 85 million acres of land in Alaska. A tour of the BLM office
will highlight the use of GIS and remote sensing technologies in a variety
of missions such as: responsible energy development in the arctic, support
of interdisciplinary science teams at the Bering Glacier World Science
Site, development of the Cadastral Data Theme in the NSDI, and support
of the Alaska Land Transfer Program.
Meet at 12:30 pm in the First Floor Lobby of the Hilton Hotel.
Participants will walk to and from the site (approximately three blocks
each way).

DAT/EM Systems International - CANCLLED
DAT/EM Systems International will open its doors and host a technical
tour of their offices. Meet the staff and receive updated technical information
on the DAT/EM line of photogrammetric products. Look behind the scenes
and meet with and discuss any pertinent issues with DAT/EM’s technical,
support, or administrative staff members.
