efore we completely settle into the routine of a new year, we would like to
introduce the members of the Student Advisory Council. As the student

Jason Blankenship
is a Civil Engineering
graduate student, with an emphasis on trans-
portation, at Florida Atlantic University. His
research focuses on creating attributed 3D
maps using a combination of photogrammetry
and computer vision techniques. Jason also volunteers at Boca
Raton Regional Hospital where he is creating a construction
document management system for the facilities management
department. Jason also has a wife, two daughters and a new
grandson. Some of his favorite hobbies are chainsaw carving
and woodturning.

Ge (Jeff) Pu
is a PhD student in water resource
engineering at the State University of New York
– College of Environmental Science and Forestry
(SUNY-ESF). His research focuses on developing
methodologies for geospatial monitoring of ripar-
ian vegetation. Jeff received his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees
in Environmental Engineering from Drexel University, where
he participated in water resource research projects in both New
York City and Venice, Italy. He likes doing outdoor activities in
his free time, such as hiking and kayaking. For two consecutive
years, Jeff has been the Vice President of Communications for
SUNY-ESF Graduate Student Association. He hopes to bring
his skills and experiences to the SAC.

Xin (Shin) Hong
is from South China, and
a PhD student in geography at Kent State
University in Ohio. She received her Master’s
degree in geography from Ohio University and
Bachelor’s degree in Geography fromUniversity
of Northern Iowa. In the summer of 2016, she worked as a
consultant with the NASA DEVELOP National Program on a
water resources project and on a coastal ocean project in the
summer of 2017. Her research interests include GIS health,
environmental remote sensing, and big data analysis. Shin’s
hobbies include reading, cooking, camping, and travelling.

Robert (Bobby) Arlen
currently studies
Earth Systems Science and Socio-Cultural
Anthropology at the University of California-
Davis (UCD). After winning a grant competition
in 2014, Bobby started the UCD Unmanned
Airborne Systems (UAS) Project integrating an imaging
spectrometer with a fully-electric unmanned airplane. Now
that the UCD UAS Project is over, he and his team founded
a startup company offering hyperspectral imaging services
and continue to pursue the research and development of high
spatial and spectral resolution imagery with UAS. Bobby enjoys
backpacking and adventure, but also likes to cook, bake, swim,
tinker and read.
