urban planning structures did not permit the definition of
several rules based on the topology information. The de-
fined ones were mainly towards describing the relationships
between the structured environment and vegetation, and in
certain cases describing the relationships among buildings.
It should be further noted that the proposed methodol-
ogy may address in a similar way a variety of cartographic
features towards the automated updating of maps, cadastral,
and
GIS
databases. To this end, the developed framework can
form the core of an integrated geospatial service towards the
operational detection and monitoring of illegal building/
settlement construction, while a further thorough validation
on numerous and various high resolution datasets and study
areas can standardize rules and parameters.
