ASPRS Launches Revised Website

The American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) launched a new version of its website last week during the 2011 Annual Conference in Milwaukee Wisconsin. The site has been completely overhauled and now uses an Open Source Content Management System (CMS) along with an iMIS membership database to serve materials on the site. The new site was streamlined to cut down on repetition and tested to ensure that popular information was well labeled and easy to find.

DeGloria Elected as ASPRS Vice President

DeGloriaThe results of the 2011 election have been tallied by the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) Tellers Committee and they reported that Stephen D. DeGloria a professor at Cornell University in Ithaca New York won the election to become ASPRS Vice President for 2011.With the installation of officers at the ASPRS Annual Conference in May Gary Florence moves into the position of President; Roberta (Bobbi) Lenczowski becomes President-Elect and Carolyn Merry becomes Past President.

01-06-11 – ASPRS 2011 Fellow Award Winners

Paul D. Brooks and Kass Green have been named the 2011 ASPRS Fellow Award winners.  The ASPRS designation of Fellow is conferred on active Society members who have performed excep­tional service in advancing the science and use of the mapping sciences (photogrammetry remote sensing surveying geographic information systems and related disciplines).

Coalition of Geospatial Organizations Selects Leader for 2011

The current Chair of the Coalition of Geospatial Organizations (COGO) announced today that the Coalition has selected as the 2012 Coalition Chair Dr. Carolyn J. Merry American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) Delegate to COGO. Ms. Geney Terry 2011 Chair of COGO indicated that Dr. Merry’s selection was made by unanimous consent of the Coalition.

06-16-10 ASPRS Names Roger Crystal Membership Development Leader

ASPRS Past President Roger Crystal was recently named ASPRS Membership Development Leader.  This adjunct staff position was approved at the April 30 2010 ASPRS Board Meeting in San Diego California after the ASPRS Membership Committee determined that the ASPRS Regions could use additional help with their grassroots membership recruitment and retention efforts.

12-09-10 ASPRS and the ASPRS Foundation Receive $90,000 Donation to Endow A New Outstanding Technical Achievement Award

In early December the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) and the ASPRS Foundation received an individual donation with a value of $90,000 to endow a new Outstanding Technical Achievement Award.  The Award will be administered through ASPRS and funded by the ASPRS Foundation. In accordance with the wishes of the donor who is a longtime ASPRS member this donation was made anonymously. ASPRS has agreed to match $35,000 of the donation in accordance with its current matching policy for a total of approximately $125,000.  The result of the match ensures that the Award will be fully endowed at the $5000 per annual award level.
